Titus Wekesa Sifuna was on Monday arraigned before the Milimani Law Courts following accusations of using his social media platform to post derogatory content targeting the President and his family.
Appearing under a miscellaneous application, the prosecution requested that Sifuna be detained for seven days to allow police to complete ongoing investigations into his online activities.
According to court documents, Sifuna operates an X (formerly Twitter) account under the handle @5thethief with the username “I must go”. The prosecution told the court that the account has been used to publish defamatory and inflammatory remarks, drawing widespread negative public reaction.

“The content amounts to hate speech and is dangerous to the peace and cohesion of the country,” the prosecution stated, adding that some of the messages and images posted by the suspect had the potential to incite ethnic divisions.
The court also heard that Sifuna allegedly altered the account’s profile to display an image of the Head of State, a move the authorities described as misleading, harmful, and disrespectful to the presidency.
“The President is a symbol of national unity and must be treated with dignity,” prosecutors argued. “The content of this account not only disrespects the Head of State but also poses a serious threat to the country’s stability and international reputation.”
