The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has strengthened its partnership with the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) to enhance efforts to combat financial and economic crimes.
The two institutions held discussions during an ICPAK courtesy visit to the ODPP, exploring measures to promote accountability, strengthen public finance management and improve prosecution of complex financial crimes.
The ICPAK delegation was received on behalf of the Director of Public Prosecutions by Secretary, Prosecution Services, Alloys Kemo, OGW. He was accompanied by Senior Deputy Directors of Public Prosecutions Hassan Abdi and Fredah Mwanza, alongside Deputy Directors Joseph Riuungu and Robert Oyiembo, ndc (K).
The visiting delegation was led by ICPAK Senior Manager, Public Policy and Research, Elias, alongside Head of Legal Services Advocate Christabel Kaiwa and Head of PR and Communications Mercy Maroma.
Discussions focused on establishing whistle-blower protection mechanisms, combating impersonation and malpractice in the accountancy profession, and strengthening accountability in public finance.
The institutions also explored specialised training for prosecutors in financial crimes and forensic accounting, expert witness support, and sharing of data and intelligence.
ICPAK proposed developing a Memorandum of Understanding to formalise the partnership and strengthen efforts to safeguard public resources.
