Information, Communications and the Digital Economy Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo has launched the Wiyumiririe Digital Hub in Ol Kalou Constituency, marking the third digital hub to be established in Nyandarua County.
The facility is expected to provide young people, students and entrepreneurs with access to digital skills training, affordable internet and opportunities within Kenya’s rapidly expanding digital economy.
Speaking during the launch on Wednesday evening, Kabogo said the hub will serve as an innovation and learning centre aimed at bringing technology closer to local communities and creating opportunities for young people.
“This evening, I launched the third Digital Hub in OlKalou Constituency, the Wiyumiririe Digital Hub, that marks yet another significant step in expanding digital access and opportunities across Nyandarua County,” he said.
According to the CS, the government is keen on ensuring that young people in rural areas are not left behind as the country accelerates its digital transformation agenda.
“The facility will serve as an innovation and learning centre, empowering youth, students and entrepreneurs with digital skills, affordable internet access and opportunities to actively participate in Kenya’s growing digital economy,” Kabogo added.
The launch comes as the government intensifies the rollout of digital hubs across the country under the Digital Superhighway programme, with plans to establish at least one hub in every ward.
The initiative is aimed at increasing internet connectivity, digital literacy and access to online jobs among young Kenyans.
The Wiyumiririe facility is expected to provide training in areas such as digital marketing, online work, data management and emerging technologies, while also supporting local innovators and small businesses seeking to leverage digital platforms.
By expanding access to technology and digital skills, the government hopes to unlock new economic opportunities and position more young Kenyans to benefit from the global digital economy.
