It is all systems go ahead of the 62nd Jamhuri Day celebrations scheduled for Friday at the Nyayo National Stadium, where President William Ruto is expected to preside over the national event.
Nairobi Regional Commissioner Gilbert Kitiyo has declared a full-scale security and public safety plan and thus giving a green light to the event. At a security briefing in Nairobi, Kitiyo said that the government is expecting a large crowd and therefore, it has boosted security measures and people management strategies to guarantee safety and orderliness.
Besides that, the opening of the gates at the Nyayo National Stadium is scheduled for 5:00 in the morning, and all guests have been given a reminder to be in their seats by 7:00 in the morning. Kitiyo offered similar advice to the public, urging them to be there early if they wanted to access the ceremony and the security checks will be tight.
Among other things, they have advised against driving on major roads leading to the stadium. Vehicle owners coming from Lang’ata Road towards the city centre will be directed through Madaraka Roundabout onto Lusaka Road. Westlands motorists on the Expressway will have to leave at Bunyala Road while those coming from Mlolongo will have to get off at Capital Centre.
Kitiyo was even more explicit that in connection with the additional security measures planned, it will not be possible for any car to drive directly opposite Nyayo Stadium on the Expressway.
Media personality Isaac Mwaura through his Twitter handle urged Kenyans to come in their numbers and attend the national celebration adding that the event represents a significant moment in the country’s journey and the dream to reach higher goals.
It Is expected that thousands of Kenyans will be at the celebrations whereby the police will ensure the event is held under calm and orderliness.
