Former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has recently claimed that he was the one who advised President William Ruto to include opposition leaders in his administration.

Kuria explained that his suggestion stemmed from his assessment of potential challenges if the opposition were left out of the government.

Even though he is no longer part of the government, Kuria expressed pride that the President took his advice seriously.

He emphasized that this move was crucial for the nation.

“To set the record straight, the idea of bringing the opposition into the government is something I largely initiated, well before the current generation. I foresaw some issues down the road, and I was in discussions with the President about the need to reform our political landscape. To navigate these challenges, we had to think outside the box,” Kuria shared during an interview on Citizen TV.

“Regardless of my current position, I am extremely proud that the President acted on this idea because it’s what the country truly needs.”

These comments were made in response to a question about whether he still communicates with President Ruto after the Cabinet reshuffle.

“We talk frequently,” Kuria confirmed.

He also mentioned that he had engaged in conversations with opposition party members, explaining the benefits of joining the government.

Following the dismissal of his entire Cabinet, President Ruto appointed at least five new Cabinet secretaries from the opposition party, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), to create what he has termed a broad-based government.

Ruto has emphasized that his goal is to foster national unity.

At last week’s swearing-in ceremony, Ruto highlighted that the inclusive Cabinet would help realize Kenya’s full potential.

“The formation of this broad-based government, which unites former political rivals into a single, selfless, and patriotic team, will unlock the potential that has long been hindered by factional and sectarian competition.

“While political competition has its place, there comes a time when the nation’s interests must outweigh the interests of any political group. That’s why I reached across the aisle to incorporate the knowledge, expertise, and experience of deserving Kenyans, even those from different political backgrounds,” Ruto stated.
