The government has kicked off a week-long sensitization campaign aimed at enlightening potential homeowners about the Affordable Housing Programme.

The campaign, which starts Tuesday, will see members of the public taken on guided tours of ongoing affordable housing projects across Central Kenya.

Officials from the Affordable Housing Project Board will be on hand to engage the public and respond to questions regarding the initiative. The exercise targets the counties of Kirinyaga, Embu, Laikipia, Nyandarua, and Murang’a, where most of the housing projects are reported to be 70 percent complete. Allocation of the units is expected to be finalized in the coming months.

Speaking ahead of the campaign, beneficiaries of the programme — which has been hailed as a major economic empowerment initiative — urged the government to roll out a second phase to sustain the job opportunities created by the projects.

The Affordable Housing Programme is part of the government’s broader agenda to provide decent and affordable housing for all Kenyans while also spurring job creation and economic growth.
