Learners at Oboch Primary School in Siaya County are set to benefit from new and improved learning infrastructure funded by M-Pesa Foundation.
This initiative, part of the Foundation’s “Citizens of the Future” program, aims to enhance learning conditions for students and provide access to modern facilities that will benefit both the learners and the surrounding community.
The much-needed infrastructure improvements include the construction of nine new classrooms for grade school students and three additional classrooms for Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) learners.
This expansion will significantly reduce congestion, creating a more comfortable and conducive learning environment.
The school has also received a new and fully equipped 40-seater ICT laboratory to enhance digital learning opportunities for the students and the surrounding community.
“At M-Pesa Foundation, we believe that each student has the right to learn in a safe, conducive environment, and that is why we continuously invest in creating learning environments that will encourage students to reach their full academic potential. Education, after all, has the power to unlock the potential of our communities and enhance the livelihoods of our people, regardless of their background,” said Mr. John Ohaga, Trustee, M-Pesa Foundation.
To improve WASH outcomes in the school, the Foundation also constructed ablution blocks for the boys, girls, and staff respectively and set up a new kitchen equipped with 2 modern energy-saving jikos that will cater for the learners’ nutritional needs.
For Mrs. Perez Molo, Oboch Primary Head of Institution, the renovated school represents a new chapter of opportunity for the learners, teachers, and community at large. “We are honoured to have been selected by M-Pesa Foundation for this renovation. I believe that the new classrooms and improved facilities have transformed our school, and they will allow our students to focus, dream big, and thrive academically,” she said.
In November 2024, a similar project was completed at Kametho Primary School in Siaya County, with another KES 35 million investment.
M-Pesa Foundation has also supported schools in other counties, including Migori, Homa Bay, Meru, Uasin Gishu, and many more, furthering its commitment to transforming education across Kenya.
With this transformative initiative at Oboch Primary School, M-Pesa Foundation continues to pave the way for brighter futures for learners in Siaya County and beyond.
