The government has reaffirmed its commitment to delivering 500,000 affordable housing units by December 2026, with substantial progress already recorded.

Lands, Housing and Urban Development Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome said about 320,000 affordable housing units have so far been completed across the country.

Speaking in Muruka, Kandara Constituency, she noted that plans are firmly on track to ensure the target is met within the set timeline.

Wahome said the programme is intended to guarantee every Kenyan access to decent, safe and dignified housing as a basic right.

She added that the government is scaling up the initiative in all counties to bridge the housing deficit while creating employment opportunities, particularly for young people.

The Cabinet Secretary reiterated that affordable housing remains a central pillar of the government’s development agenda, stressing the commitment to improving living standards nationwide.

She also issued a strong warning to individuals involved in land fraud, saying the ministry is on high alert and will take firm legal action against offenders.

Wahome further noted that the government remains stable, adding that signs of economic recovery are becoming evident as the focus shifts to delivering tangible development that improves the lives of Kenyans.

She said the rollout of affordable housing, modern markets, road infrastructure and other projects has significantly revitalised local economies, with residents reporting meaningful improvements in their communities.
