In a move aimed at boosting access to quality healthcare and advancing Universal Health Coverage (UHC), the Cabinet has approved the construction of two Level 6 teaching and referral hospitals in Bungoma and Kericho counties.
The facilities, which will be developed in partnership with the African Development Bank (AfDB), will offer specialized medical services and serve as training hubs for healthcare professionals.
These hospitals will ease pressure on existing referral centers, including Kenyatta National Hospital, Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital and Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital.
They will also stimulate regional economic growth through job creation and improved infrastructure.
This move was announced in a Cabinet statement issued after the meeting chaired by President William Ruto on Tuesday at State House, Nairobi.
