Kongamano La Mapinduzi has voiced strong concerns about Kenya’s worsening political and economic crisis, blaming government corruption, wastage, and oppressive policies for the hardships facing citizens.
The group highlighted the Kenya Kwanza government’s disregard for public grievances, citing the reintroduction of unpopular measures from the Finance Bill 2024 that burden citizens with high living costs.
“The cost of living has skyrocketed, and instead of investing in essential social sectors like health and education, the government has prioritized wastage and corruption.” Stated Paul Mark, member Kongamano La Mapinduzi.
They also criticized the poorly implemented Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF), which has left millions without essential healthcare services, benefitting only the wealthy elite.
“SHIF has locked millions of Kenyans out of essential healthcare services like dialysis and surgery, previously accessible under NHIF.” Said Activist Odhiambo Ojiro.
Other alarming issues include rising abductions and enforced disappearances linked to state operatives, femicide cases, and the discovery of bodies near Kware Police Station in Mukuru slums.
The Mukuru Community Justice Center’s report pointed out institutional failures, including the inaction of religious organizations, in addressing these tragedies.
“Instead of improving the lives of citizens, they are focused on political score-settling and ethnic balkanization, undoing the unity achieved during the June protests.” Commented Perpetua Kariuki , member Kongamano La Mapinduzi.
Kongamano La Mapinduzi accused the political elite of prioritizing personal interests over national progress, engaging in ethnic divisions, and undermining the unity achieved during the June protests.
They also decried Parliament’s capture by the executive, rendering it ineffective and unconstitutional due to failure to meet the two-thirds gender rule.
“Kenyans must smell the coffee , and know that they are on their own. This country can only change for the better if they come together to speak truth to power.” Urged John Mulingwa, member Kongamano La Mapinduzi.
The group urged Kenyans to unite, speak truth to power, and join progressive movements to demand accountability and drive change.
They called for the dissolution of Parliament and a reevaluation of representation to restore the nation’s democracy.
