Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has lauded the Mukuru Affordable and Social Housing Project as a game-changer in improving the living standards of Kenyans.

Speaking on Thursday, the Deputy President highlighted the near completion of Phase One of the project, which consists of 13,428 housing units set to be commissioned soon.

“The transformative impact of decent and affordable housing is best illustrated by the Mukuru Affordable and Social Housing Project,” Kindiki said.

He emphasized that the initiative affirms the socioeconomic rights guaranteed under Article 43 of the Constitution, which includes the right to accessible and adequate housing.

The project also aligns with the government’s efforts to improve Kenya’s position on the global Human Development Index.

“Decent housing is not just about shelter; it is a fundamental socioeconomic right. Projects like this not only uplift individual families but also enhance Kenya’s ranking in global development indicators,” Kindiki added.

The Mukuru project is part of the Kenya Kwanza administration’s Affordable Housing Agenda, which seeks to address the country’s growing housing deficit.

By providing affordable, quality homes, the initiative is expected to impact thousands of families and contribute to urban renewal in informal settlements.

Residents of Mukuru expressed optimism about the project’s potential to transform their lives.

“I have lived in this area for over 20 years, and I never imagined owning a decent home. This project is a blessing to many of us,” said Mary Njeri, a prospective beneficiary.

The Deputy President reiterated the government’s commitment to similar initiatives across the country, ensuring that affordable housing becomes a reality for all Kenyans.
