The Eldoret Railway City Affordable Housing Project has reached 56 percent completion, marking significant progress in one of the largest residential developments in Eldoret as the city responds to increasing demand for quality and affordable housing.
Located in the rapidly expanding North Rift economic hub, the project will deliver about 2,180 housing units across social, affordable and market housing categories. The homes are being constructed within 15 residential blocks, each rising 14 floors (G+14).
According Raymond Omollo, Principal Secretary for Interior, structural works on all residential blocks have been completed. Plastering is currently underway, while window installation has reached 80 percent. Construction of key public amenities, including a school, police station and community centre, is also progressing steadily.
The mixed-use development is designed to create a self-sustaining urban community by integrating residential, commercial and social infrastructure. It will feature 65 commercial shops, an Early Childhood Development (ECD) centre, a primary and junior school, a clinic, supermarket, clubhouse, swimming pool and basketball courts.
To improve construction efficiency and support timely completion, the project is producing its own building blocks on site.
The State Department for Internal Security and National Administration is providing strategic oversight and coordination, particularly on the delivery of critical public infrastructure such as the police station and community facilities.
The department says the approach will help ensure the estate develops into a secure, well-planned and sustainable residential community that supports Eldoret’s growing urban population and economic expansion.
