Singer and businessman Paul Waiganjo has thrown his hat into the ring for the Olkarau parliamentary seat, presenting himself as a fresh alternative focused on transparency and education-driven development.

Speaking during an interview with Kururia TV, Waiganjo said his bid is inspired by the need to bring accountable leadership and practical solutions to the constituency, particularly in the education sector.

“I believe Olkarau deserves leadership that is open, accountable, and focused on empowering the next generation through education,” he said.

He noted that his agenda will also focus on sustaining development projects initiated by the late David Kiaraho, while introducing new initiatives aimed at improving livelihoods.

Waiganjo confirmed he will vie on the Democrats for the Citizen Party (DCP) ticket, a party associated with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, which has pledged transparent nominations ahead of the by-election.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has set July 16 as the date for the by-election after the seat was officially declared vacant by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula.

IEBC has appointed Anthony Muhia Njiraini as the Returning Officer, assisted by Maurine Chepkemoi Kisiero as Deputy Returning Officer.

Political parties have until May 4 to submit the names and specimen signatures of their authorized officials, as well as details of aspirants expected to take part in party primaries.

Nomination papers for both party candidates and independent aspirants will be submitted on May 25 and 26, setting the stage for a competitive contest as new and established candidates seek to win over voters.
