The National Police Service has condemned a violent incident that occurred during a public meeting presided over by Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki in Nembure, Embu County.


In a press statement issued on September 12, 2026, the police service said a group of individuals attempted to unlawfully storm the meeting, prompting officers to intervene and disperse the assailants.


Several suspects were arrested at the scene as security officers moved to restore law and order following the chaos.


The incident, however, resulted in one person sustaining fatal injuries, while six vehicles were reportedly torched and several other people injured.


The National Police Service said investigations have commenced to establish the circumstances surrounding the violence and identify all those involved.


Police warned that individuals found to have participated in the incident or similar acts of lawlessness would face stern legal action.


The service reaffirmed its commitment to protecting life and property and maintaining law and order across the country.


Director Corporate Communication and National Police Service Spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga said further updates would be issued as investigations progress and when it is operationally possible to do so.
