Kenya is preparing to host a major mangrove restoration exercise at the Mirarani site in Tudor Creek, Mombasa County, from April 30 to May 1, 2026.
The 24-hour event will be led by global environmental campaigner Antoine Moses, who previously set a Guinness World Record after planting 23,060 trees in a single day. This time, he is aiming even higher, with a target of planting 40,000 mangrove propagules within 24 hours.
Partners in the exercise include the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry, Kenya Forest Service, EarthLungs Reforestation Foundation, Veritree, the County Government of Mombasa, among others. The exercise will take place in actual coastal circumstances.
According to the State Department of Forestry, this exercise is one of the measures aimed at restoring degraded coastal ecosystems in line with the nation’s climate agenda. It is a step towards the nation’s 15 billion tree-growing plan.
In addition to tree planting, the exercise will play a vital role in the protection of biodiversity, carbon sequestration, and livelihoods of coastal communities.
Kenya has opened up the exercise to people all over the world in accordance with its importance in environmental conservation.
