President William Ruto has announced a major urban development programme aimed at transforming Nairobi’s infrastructure, in line with its status as Kenya’s capital and a key gateway to Eastern Africa.

Ruto said the government, in partnership with the Nairobi City County Government, is investing KSh80 billion in upgrading the city’s infrastructure and service delivery systems.

“In partnership with the Nairobi City County Government, we are investing KSh80 billion in the construction of 260km of roads, installation of 40,000 street lights, and the strengthening of waste management systems,”president Ruto said in a statement.

The project will include the construction of 260 kilometres of roads, installation of 40,000 street lights, and the strengthening of waste management systems across the capital.

“We are transforming the face of Nairobi to match its status as Kenya’s capital city and the gateway to Eastern Africa,” the President said.

He noted that the initiative is expected to improve mobility, enhance urban safety through improved lighting, and support cleaner and more efficient waste management in the city.
