The Deputy Director of Criminal Investigations, Mr. John Onyango, on Monday officially opened the second cohort of the Senior Investigations Officers’ Seminar at the National Criminal Investigation Academy (NCIA), signaling a renewed push to boost expertise and leadership within Kenya’s law enforcement ranks.

The week-long seminar brings together 40 senior officers drawn from various Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) units for advanced training designed to enhance their investigative competencies and strategic thinking.

Representing the Director of DCI, Mr. Onyango emphasized in his keynote address the critical role the seminar plays in equipping officers with the knowledge and tools required to tackle complex, evolving security threats.

“This program is not just about skills development, it is about fostering innovation, leadership, and collaboration across units,” he said. “We are in an era where crime is becoming more sophisticated, and our response must be equally dynamic and coordinated.”

Mr. Onyango encouraged participants to challenge conventional practices, embrace peer learning, and develop actionable solutions to strengthen both field operations and institutional systems.

Also present at the opening ceremony were key figures in national investigations, including NCIA Commandant Mr. Sospeter Munyi, Director of the Anti-Narcotics Unit Mr. Samuel Laboso, and Deputy Director of Training Mr. Adan Guyo, who all underscored the importance of continuous professional development in policing.

The seminar reflects DCI’s broader commitment to capacity building and modernization of investigative approaches in line with global standards.
