A 3-year-old boy who was reported missing in Ruiru, Kiambu County, has been successfully rescued by detectives in a coordinated police operation that led to the arrest of two suspected child traffickers.
The child was stolen from his home earlier this week, sparking panic and a desperate search by his family. Upon receiving the missing child report at Ruiru Police Station, detectives launched a thorough investigation that extended to the Western and Central regions of Kenya.
Their efforts bore fruit when officers stormed a house in Tetu, Nyeri County, where they found the boy in the company of two men. The suspects, identified as George Maina, the house owner, and Samuel Juma, believed to be the individual who abducted the child, were immediately arrested.
The child was rescued unharmed and taken to hospital for a medical examination, pending a reunion with his relieved parents who have since been notified of the successful rescue.
The arrest comes amid a disturbing rise in child disappearance cases across the country, with law enforcement agencies raising the alarm on what appears to be a growing child trafficking network.
The Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Protection Unit has reiterated its commitment to cracking down on child trafficking rings, pledging to deploy maximum resources and force to combat the threat.
“This is a warning to those involved in preying on innocent children. We will track them down and bring them to justice,” said a senior officer involved in the operation.
The two suspects are currently in custody and are expected to face charges related to child trafficking and abduction.
