The National Police Service has denied involvement in the purported abduction of Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi.
On Monday, May 26, a video emerged of Koimburi supposedly dumped at the Jacaranda coffee plantation in Kiambu after being freed by his abductors. He was then rushed to Karen Hospital for urgent medical attention.
However, police explained that the MP has been under investigation for a land fraud matter, and consent to prosecute was issued by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).
On Friday, May 23, Koimburi, aware of the police’s intention to arrest him, evaded a dragnet operation, duped officers by escaping on a motorcycle alongside his private security, and switched off his mobile phone.
His car, with only the driver inside, was intercepted; the driver was arrested but later released after recording a statement.
After disappearing, the police said the MP only resurfaced today amid abduction claims.
Police from Juja visited the alleged scene of his dumping in the coffee farm and the area was properly documented.
A special team from DCI headquarters is analysing the purported abduction video and all circumstances surrounding these allegations to conclusively establish the truth.
