A postmortem conducted on the body of Kasipul Member of Parliament Ong’ondo Were has revealed that he sustained five gunshot wounds to the chest, in what investigators are now calling a cold-blooded execution.

The examination, carried out on Monday, showed that the bullets—fired at close range—ruptured vital organs including the heart, leading to the MP’s death on Wednesday, April 30. Forensic experts say the nature and precision of the injuries point to a “targeted and brutal execution.”

The grim findings come a day after police announced a major breakthrough in the investigation, confirming the arrest of four suspects linked to the crime scene.

According to the National Police Service (NPS), the arrests followed an intelligence-led operation, and detectives recovered crucial evidence connecting the suspects to the fatal shooting.

Authorities further revealed that some of the suspects are affiliated with the Mjahidin gang, a notorious criminal outfit implicated in numerous armed robberies in Nairobi’s Eastlands area.

“Investigations are ongoing to determine the motive of the killing and to ensure that all those responsible are brought to justice,” read a statement from the NPS.

The police have urged the public to remain calm and avoid speculation, warning that inflammatory statements and premature conclusions could jeopardize the integrity of the ongoing probe.

Meanwhile, the family of the late MP has called for justice, demanding swift and transparent investigations into the killing that took place near the City Mortuary roundabout on Ngong Road.

“We are grieving, but we also want answers. Justice must be served,” a family spokesperson said.
