The Inspector-General of the National Police Service (NPS), Douglas Kanja, has convened a high-level security summit with senior police commanders to review the country’s security situation and strengthen strategies to combat emerging threats.
The meeting, held on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at the National Police Leadership Academy in Ng’ong, brought together top officials from the Kenya Police Service (KPS), Administration Police Service (APS), and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
The summit focused on assessing current security operations, analysing emerging crime trends, and developing strategic interventions aimed at enhancing public safety and national security.
IG Kanja was accompanied by KPS Deputy Inspector-General Eliud Lagat, APS Deputy Inspector-General Gilbert Masengeli, and DCI Director Mohamed Amin.
Addressing the commanders, Kanja praised police officers for their continued efforts in addressing evolving security challenges and urged them to adopt effective and adaptive approaches that maximise available resources.
He warned against the resurgence of criminal gangs, directing security commanders to take immediate and decisive action to dismantle such networks across the country.
The Inspector-General also cautioned officers against operational negligence, stressing that accountability and professionalism remain critical in maintaining law and order.
Kanja reaffirmed the NPS commitment to safeguarding citizens, residents, and visitors while creating a secure environment that supports social and economic development.
