The planned launch of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) set for Tuesday, June 3, at Kasarani Stadium has been cancelled after the party was denied access to the venue.

In a statement on Monday, June 2, former KICC chair Irungu Nyakera confirmed the setback, citing refusal by Sports Kenya to allow the event, despite an earlier confirmation. He assured supporters that new dates and a venue would be communicated soon.

“You can deny us a venue, but you cannot deny us our voice. We will rise,” Nyakera stated.

The launch, spearheaded by DCP leader and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, was to take place at the Kasarani Gymnasium with about 5,000 attendees.

The party had reserved the venue at a cost of Ksh3.7 million, intending to unveil its manifesto and leadership.

However, Sports Kenya Director-General Gabriel Komora cancelled the booking, citing upcoming preparations for the African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2025. This was despite an earlier written confirmation on May 21.

DCP has accused the government, particularly President William Ruto, of interfering with its launch plans.
