Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu has issued a strong response to criticism over the recent detention and deportation of several Kenyan legal and political observers who had traveled to witness the trial of CHADEMA leader Tundu Lissu.

During the launch of the 2024 Edition of Tanzania’s Foreign Policy, President Suluhu defended her government’s actions and cautioned against foreign interference in Tanzania’s domestic matters.

She voiced concern about what she described as an increasing pattern of activists from neighboring countries trying to disrupt Tanzania’s peace and stability.

Suluhu emphasized that, unlike some of its neighbors, Tanzania remains peaceful and secure-a situation she is determined to maintain.

She stated:

"We have started seeing a trend where activists from our region are beginning to invade and interfere in our affairs. Now, if they’ve already been dealt with in their own countries, they should not come here to ruin things for us. Let’s not give them room—they’ve already caused chaos at home. This is the one country left that hasn’t been destabilised. It is here that people enjoy safety, peace, and stability," said Suluhu.

Addressing the recent detentions at Julius Nyerere International Airport-including those of senior counsel Martha Karua and former chief justice Willy Mutunga, Suluhu made it clear that Tanzania will not tolerate what she called “undisciplined elements” from other countries seeking to “bring disorder” to the nation.
