Fredrick Odhiambo, popularly known by his alias Agunyo, was arraigned in court today to face charges of malicious damage to property amounting to nearly Sh1 million. The court session took place at the Makadara Law Courts early Monday morning, where Odhiambo appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Jane Kamau.
The incident in question occurred earlier this year at Obama Estate, located off Kangundo Road. Odhiambo is accused of orchestrating the destruction of property belonging to a local businesswoman. He was arrested shortly after the incident and is currently out on bond pending trial.
According to police reports, Odhiambo has been posing as the chairman of a now-defunct self-help group that authorities allege has morphed into a criminal gang. Residents say the group has been terrorizing the area, using threats, violence, and intimidation to unlawfully seize property from legitimate owners. In many cases, the group allegedly resold the stolen properties to unsuspecting buyers.
Speaking outside the courtroom, the complainant, who asked not to be named for safety reasons, said she hoped justice would be served and warned others in the community to remain vigilant against such groups.
The court scheduled the hearing for July 23, 2025. Meanwhile, investigations into the gang’s activities continue, with local authorities urging any victims or witnesses to come forward.
