The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has launched a full-scale investigation into a violent incident that saw Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) officers unlawfully obstructed while executing official duties earlier today in Trans Nzoia County.
The EACC officers were acting on court-issued search warrants in a corruption probe involving alleged irregular procurement and fictitious payments totaling KSh 1.4 billion by the Trans Nzoia County Government during the 2022/2023 and 2024/2025 financial years.
The searches were focused on the residence and office of Governor George Natembeya, as well as properties linked to four other individuals implicated in the scandal. At the governor’s residence, the operation was conducted in the presence of his family, the county attorney, and legal representatives—until it was violently disrupted.
According to officials, a hostile group of individuals stormed the premises, overpowered the security detail, and vandalized five EACC vehicles. The assailants also made away with seized evidence and other valuables from the vehicles in what authorities are calling a deliberate attempt to obstruct justice.
The DCI has vowed to pursue all those responsible, with investigations already underway to identify, arrest, and prosecute the perpetrators of the attack.
“This was a direct assault on the rule of law and the integrity of our anti-corruption framework,” a senior DCI official stated.
The incident has sparked national concern, with calls for enhanced protection of investigative officers and stronger enforcement of anti-corruption laws.
