Nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba has been expelled from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party, effective immediately.
The party’s disciplinary committee resolved to kick the senator out after deliberating on her conduct, which reportedly violated the party’s code.
The announcement was made on Monday, May 19, after the meeting by the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party adopted and ratified the disciplinary committee’s decision.
As such, Orwoba ceases to be a member of the UDA Party, which is led by President William Ruto.
Consequently, UDA secretary general Hassan Omar said the lawmaker no longer enjoys any privileges accorded to party members nor is she authorised to represent or act on behalf of the party in any capacity.
The party has also formally written to the Speaker of the Senate, Amason Kingi, to initiate the process of her removal from the Senate.
The party has notified the Registrar of Political Parties (RPP) and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) of her expulsion.
