More than 90,000 new voters have been registered in Kenya as the voter listing exercise goes deep into the country.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has reported that a total of 90,020 new voters have been registered in the ongoing voter listing exercise.
According to the commission, Nairobi, Kiambu, and Machakos counties are leading with the highest number of newly registered voters, which is a clear indication of a strong mobilization effort that has been carried out in urban and peri-urban areas.
Moreover, 15,619 voters have successfully changed their polling stations since the commencement of the exercise. The most considerable number of transfers has been witnessed in Nairobi, Mombasa, and Kiambu, and the least has been in Tana River, Marsabit, and Isiolo counties.
IEBC has put 6.3 million new voter registrations as its target before the next General Election. The commission has urged all eligible Kenyans, particularly the youth and first-time voters, to make it a point to register in large numbers before the deadline.
The voter registration operation is just one part of IEBC’s comprehensive preparations to pave the way for credible, inclusive, and transparent elections throughout the country.
