Kenya will showcase its healthcare reforms under the Taifa Care model at a major regional health conference set to be held in Ethiopia next month.
Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale made the announcement on Friday after meeting Ethiopian Ambassador to Kenya General Bacha Debele Buta and officials from the Ethiopian and Kenya healthcare federations.
The 13th East Africa Healthcare Federation Conference and International Health Exhibition will take place in Ethiopia from August 21 to 23, 2026.
The conference will bring together governments, healthcare professionals, investors and private sector players from across the region to discuss ways of strengthening healthcare systems.
According to Duale, Kenya will use the forum to highlight reforms aimed at achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) through the Taifa Care model.
“The forum will provide Kenya with an opportunity to showcase the transformative health sector reforms underpinning the delivery of Universal Health Coverage through the Taifa Care Model,” Duale said.
The meeting focused on preparations for the conference, which will be held under the theme: “Resilience: Building the East African Health Economy – Advancing Regional Partnerships, Innovation and Investment for a Healthier East Africa.”
Duale said Kenya remains committed to strengthening regional partnerships to promote knowledge sharing and sustainable healthcare solutions.
He also emphasized the role of the private sector in supporting healthcare reforms.
“The private sector remains a key partner in expanding access to quality, affordable healthcare, driving innovation, mobilizing investment and supporting health sector reforms,” he said.
Among those present at the meeting were Ethiopian Healthcare Federation Chairperson Dr. Markos Fekele, Kenya Healthcare Federation Chairperson Dr. Kanyenje Gakombe and the Ministry of Health’s Director for Health Sector Coordination Dr. Ahmed Albush.
