President William Ruto has called on politicians to prioritize the issues affecting Kenyans over engaging in popularity contests. He emphasized the importance of unity and teamwork among leaders to advance the country’s development agenda.

Speaking at the opening of the Pwani School for the Mentally Challenged tuition block and during the foundation stone-laying ceremony for the Nyali Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) center in Mombasa County, President Ruto urged leaders to transcend political differences and prioritize the nation’s interests.

“We must always put the unity of the country and the interests of Kenyans first and not our own as leaders,” President Ruto stated.

In addition to his call for unity, President Ruto addressed the government’s plans to enhance food security in the country.

He announced that KSh450 million has been allocated to the Bura and Tana Delta irrigation projects, aimed at increasing agricultural production in arid and semi-arid regions.

“We are committed to producing enough food and eliminating the shame of hunger in our country,” President Ruto said.

At Ngao Secondary School in Garsen, Tana River County, the President further revealed that KSh400 million will be allocated to connect 6,000 households to electricity under the Last Mile Electricity Connectivity Programme.

He acknowledged the region’s vulnerability to flooding during the rainy season and announced plans to relocate affected residents to safer areas.

“The government is also building four markets in the county at a cost of KSh250 million to improve the working environment for small-scale traders, including mama mboga and boda boda operators,” he added.

President Ruto was accompanied by Tana River Governor Dhadho Godhana, along with several Members of Parliament and County Assembly members.
