As part of the cybersecurity awareness month, Safaricom convened a two-day industry-wide Cybersecurity Summit with a call on businesses, governments, and individuals to invest in technologies that protect sensitive information and critical systems from cyber threats.

Themed “Secure Innovation, Unstoppable Growth for Kenyan Financial Services,” the two-day event emphasized the importance of protecting critical systems from increasingly sophisticated cyber threats.
Speakers at the summit, including SISA Infosec’s vice president Ramakrishna Balagopa, highlighted the rise in cyberattacks like ransomware, phishing, and social engineering, which increasingly target financial data and assets.

In 2024 alone, Kenya experienced over 1.1 billion cyber threats, driven by rising IoT adoption, insecure system setups, and AI.
INTERPOL’s report shows that Africa leads in weekly cyberattacks per organization, largely due to insufficient cybersecurity infrastructure.
Safaricom’s CEO, Peter Ndegwa, outlined the company’s extensive security offerings, from network and data protection to video surveillance and cloud solutions, ensuring business continuity against threats.
