Veteran journalist Ken Mijungu has officially announced his departure from KTN News, bringing an end to a significant chapter of his distinguished career. After four years at the station, Mijungu expressed deep gratitude for the opportunities and experiences he encountered during his tenure, reflecting on the highs and challenges that marked his time at KTN News.

In a heartfelt message, Mijungu shared, “A true performer knows when to leave the stage! These four years have been filled with excitement, challenges, and countless unforgettable moments. The journey has been unpredictable yet enriching, but the time has come for me to explore new opportunities while I still have the chance. I am eternally grateful to God, my colleagues at Standard Group PLC, and everyone at KTN News. Farewell!”

A New Venture on the Horizon?

Rumors suggest that Mijungu’s next destination could be Cape Media, the parent company of TV47 and Radio 47. Cape Media, which has been growing its media presence, is believed to be looking to expand its team by bringing in experienced journalists, and Mijungu’s potential move aligns with their strategy. The media group, owned by billionaire Prof. Simon Gicharu, has been rapidly growing and could offer Mijungu a new platform to further his career.

A Glorious Journey in Journalism

Ken Mijungu’s path in journalism began during the turbulent period after Kenya’s 2007/2008 post-election violence. Armed with a borrowed camera, he captured compelling footage from Kibera, which caught the eye of K24. This marked the beginning of his career, and he was soon hired as a reporter, launching his professional journey in the media world.

Mijungu’s career quickly took off, with a notable four-year stint at K24, where he covered business and current affairs, eventually becoming a prime-time news anchor. His career soared to new heights in 2011 when he joined CCTV Africa (now CGTN Africa), covering high-profile international assignments and earning recognition for his global reporting expertise.

In 2013, Mijungu joined Nation Media Group, where he spent over seven years as a senior reporter and anchor for NTV. It was here that he gained widespread recognition, particularly as the host of Sidebar, a political talk show where he interviewed some of the most influential figures in the Kenyan political scene.

Mijungu’s time at KTN News began in 2020, where he initially served as the Deputy Editor of Broadcast. His leadership and editorial contributions were later recognized when he was promoted to Managing Editor – Broadcast in 2024, where his strategic direction significantly shaped the station’s content and vision.
