Kenya’s President William Ruto has apologised to Tanzania amid tension between the two countries that has culminated in a war of words on social media.
The tiff between the two nations began after Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu deported several Kenyan activists, including Martha Karua and Willy Mutunga, who had traveled to the country to attend the trial of Tundu Lissu.
A majority of Kenyans did not take the deportation lightly and have been criticising Tanzanian leaders, sending them ‘greetings’ on their leaked personal phone numbers.
On the other hand, Tanzanian MPs have also been throwing tirades at Kenyans, and in one sitting in their parliament, they rebuked Kenyans’ behaviour.
In a move that can be translated as ‘being the bigger person,’ President Ruto expressed his apologies to Tanzania on behalf of Kenyans during the National Prayer Breakfast on Wednesday, May 28.
"To our neighbours from Tanzania, if we have wronged you in any way, forgive us," said President Ruto.
