Kenyatta University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Paul Wainaina has paid a moving tribute to Mr. Oscar, a member of the graduating Class of 2025 who overcame immense personal tragedy to complete his studies.
Speaking during the 57th Graduation Ceremony on Friday, Prof. Wainaina singled out Mr. Oscar’s extraordinary resilience and perseverance following a devastating road accident in Maungu that left him paralyzed.
“KU continues to hold his hand and walk with him. We thank all those who have come to bring him here today,” said the Vice-Chancellor, drawing emotional applause from the audience.
Despite enduring severe physical limitations and emotional hardship, Mr. Oscar defied the odds to earn his academic qualification—an achievement the university described as a testament to the power of the human spirit and the enduring support of the KU community.
His graduation, Prof. Wainaina said, serves as a profound symbol of courage, community, and hope. “Today, despite unimaginable challenges, Mr. Oscar graduates. His journey is a powerful reminder of the strength that lives on in every KU story,” he said.
The university has been instrumental in supporting Oscar through rehabilitation and academic accommodation, a reflection of its commitment to inclusivity and student welfare.
