Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has announced Vincent Kibet Rotich as the party’s candidate for the Emurua Dikirr parliamentary seat ahead of the May 14 by-election.
The seat fell vacant following the death of former MP Johanna Ng’eno in a plane crash in Nandi county. Gachagua described Rotich, a 37-year-old former chief, as a committed leader who shares Ng’eno’s dedication to service and enjoys strong community support.
Gachagua warned Rotich against political inducements, alleging that rival parties might attempt to sway him with money. He urged the candidate to remain loyal to the community, saying. “Even if they give you KSh 200 million, do not accept the money and betray your community,” Gachagua said. He expressed confidence that Rotich would become the first DCP MP in parliament and called on voters to support him for effective representation.
Speaking after his unveiling, Rotich, accompanied by his parents, vowed not to be swayed by money and promised to fight for residents’ rights. He also appealed to President William Ruto to compensate victims of the Angata Barrakoi land dispute and return their land, adding that he is determined to win and serve the constituency.
This comes just a week after United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party primaries conducted on Friday, March 27, 2026. David Keter won the nomination in a close race, garnering 13,759 votes against his closest rival, Bernard Kipkoech Ng’eno (also known as Buluu), who received 13,394 votes.
Keter will now carry the UDA flag in the highly anticipated mini-poll.
