The National assembly of kenya has started the burial preparation of the late MP Johanna Ng’eno.

The MP perished on Saturday following a plane crush in Nandi .

Already staffs from parliament arrived in his Nairobi home on Sunday for the plans and to offer support to the family and begin coordinating funeral arrangements for the late legislator.

Until his untimely death, Hon. Ng’eno was the Chairperson of the Departmental Committee on Housing, Urban Planning & Public Works and also a member of the Liaison Committee.

Under his leadership, the Housing, Urban Planning and Public Works Committee played a vital role in the passage of the Affordable Housing Act, 2024, which established a framework for the development and access to decent and affordable housing for Kenyans.

Having been elected in 2013, Hon. Ng’eno was serving his 3rd consecutive term in the National Assembly.

In a formal communication to the House, the Speaker of the National Assembly, Moses Wetang’ula, described the incident as a devastating loss to Parliament and the nation.

Speaker Wetang’ula said in the communication to the House that he had appointed a team of legislators to further support the family in the planning process.

“As we mourn the loss of a devoted legislator and a committed servant of the people, I have appointed a team led by Hon. Julius Melly (Tinderet), and assisted by Hon. Mugambi Rindikiri (Buuri), and eight other Members, to liaise with the family to coordinate support for the family including send-off, upon decision by the family,” said the Speaker.

Meanwhile, Parliament has also dispatched a team to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret where the bodies are currently preserved to facilitate the transfer of the bodies to Nairobi.

Further details regarding memorial and burial arrangements are expected to be communicated in due course.
