Kenya’s Malkia Strikers have stormed into the final of the 2026 CAVB Women’s African Nations Volleyball Championship after defeating Cameroon 3-0 at the Kasarani Indoor Arena.
President William Ruto has congratulated the team, describing their victory as a proud moment for the country.
“We are proud of the outstanding performance of our Malkia Strikers at the 2026 Women’s African Nations Volleyball Championship,” Ruto said.
The President praised the team for maintaining the winning spirit that has made Malkia Strikers one of Africa’s leading women’s volleyball sides.
“As the defending African champions, you have once again shown the winning spirit that has come to define Malkia Strikers,” he said.
Ruto urged the players to remain focused as they prepare for the final, assuring them of the country’s support.
“As you take this final step, know that the nation stands firmly behind you. All the best in the finals. Make Kenya proud,” he said.
The Malkia Strikers sealed their place in the final with a commanding 25-19, 25-20, 25-20 victory over Cameroon on Thursday.
The win keeps Kenya’s title defence alive as the team targets a record-extending 11th continental crown.
Kenya will face Egypt in Friday’s final after the North Africans defeated Rwanda 3-0 in the other semifinal. The final is scheduled for 6pm at Kasarani Indoor Arena.
Tourism Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano also congratulated the team, praising their resilience, teamwork and fighting spirit.
Miano said the players had continued to elevate Kenyan volleyball while showcasing the country’s sporting talent.
Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i also hailed the Malkia Strikers after their victory.
“Hearty congratulations to Team Kenya’s Malkia Strikers on qualifying for the CAVB 2026 final,” Matiang’i said.
He urged the team to maintain the momentum against Egypt and defend the continental title.
Matiang’i also used the occasion to call for greater investment in sport, the arts and the wider creative economy, saying these areas have immense potential for young Kenyans.
“Sport, the arts and the wider creative economy hold immense potential for our young people,” he said.
The Malkia Strikers have now moved one step closer to retaining their African crown on home soil, with the team carrying the hopes of millions of Kenyans into the final.
