President William Ruto has reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to transforming Kenya through his government’s ambitious housing agenda, insisting that he will not be distracted by criticism or political noise.
Speaking during the Second Kenya Urban Forum in Naivasha, the President declared that he is focused on the long-term goal of building a better Kenya — even if it comes at a personal cost.
“I cannot be distracted; I am a man on a mission to transform this country. No amount of noise and propaganda will sway me from delivering on this agenda. I am willing to pay the price, whatever it is, to make sure that we transform this country and house as many Kenyans as possible,” said Ruto.
The Head of State noted that Kenya is urbanising rapidly, with a 4.3% annual urban growth rate. By 2050, he projected that half of the country’s population will be living in urban areas, highlighting the need for deliberate planning and decent housing solutions.
To address this urban shift, Ruto said the government is rolling out strategic interventions under the Affordable Housing Programme (AHP), which currently has a pipeline of over 700,000 units.
“We are implementing bold and strategic measures to shape this urban future, ensuring that every Kenyan has access to planned, dignified, and decent housing,” he told delegates.
Ruto cited the recently launched New Mukuru Housing Project, which will deliver 13,248 units and has already injected over Sh11 billion into construction and neighborhood development. The President officially handed over 1,080 completed homes to families in Mukuru Kwa Njenga, Kwa Reuben, and Marigu-ini in May.
“For every shilling invested, an additional Sh2.50 is generated through supporting businesses, meaning nearly Sh28 billion has already been infused into the economy through this single initiative,” he said.
He also praised the role of the private sector in the housing drive, revealing that 154 contractors are currently engaged in delivering units and support infrastructure under public-private partnerships.
