Kenyan media personality and Citizen TV journalist Trevor Ombija announced his decision to join President William Ruto’s Tutam Movement, citing the president’s development record in Luo Nyanza as the driving force behind his endorsement.
Ombija also declared his intention to contest the Nyakach parliamentary seat in Kisumu County, ahead of the 2027 General Election, signaling a bold transition from the newsroom to political battleground.
In his announcement, Ombija highlighted several projects as evidence of Ruto’s development in Luo Nyanza including the upgrade of Jaramogi Oginga Teaching and Referral Hospital, which he described as a transformative for the regional healthcare access.
He also highlighted the Rironi-Mau Summit dual carriageway, aimed at easing traffic congestion and boosting connectivity.
“For 60 years, no one constructed this highway. It is President Ruto who is doing it now. I remember sleeping on that road during the Christmas holiday because of heavy traffic. But now It’s under construction. Let’s give Ruto another term,” Ombija said.
The extension of the Standard Gauge Railwya (SGR) from Naivasha to Kisumu and Malava, is expected to unlock economic potential by facilitating freight and passenger transport.
He framed Ruto as the first leader to deliver tangible development in Luo Nyanza after decades of neglect. He also urged the people of Nyakach to support leaders who prioritize integrity and accountability, cautioning against electing corrupt politicians.
Trevor Ombija’s endorsement strengthens Ruto’s outreach in Luo Nyanza, a region historically aligned with opposition politics. His Tutam Movement consolidates support across diverse constituencies, with development projects used as a central campaign narrative.
