The United Democratic Alliance has announced that it is ready to conduct party primaries in 18 counties following the earlier postponement of the exercise.
Addressing a press conference, the party’s Secretary-General Hassan Omar said the party had finalized preparations to conduct the polls in Samburu, Trans Nzoia, Vihiga, Elgeyo Marakwet, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Nandi, Kericho, Bomet, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Meru, Tharaka Nithi, Embu, Kirinyaga, Nyeri, Murang’a and Kiambu counties.
The primaries in the counties had earlier been cancelled following the death of Johanna Ng’eno, the Emurua Dikirr Member of Parliament and a member of the party’s election board leadership.
Meanwhile, the party’s National Elections Board (NEB) chairman Anthony Mwaura cautioned party members against engaging in acts of violence during and after the nomination exercise.
Mwaura urged aspirants and their supporters to maintain peace and respect the party’s electoral process to ensure credible and fair nominations.
