Spotify is bringing a wave of innovation to Kenya with the official launch of its AI Playlist feature for Premium subscribers. This development comes as part of a major expansion across more than 40 countries, including several in Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Caribbean.
Currently in beta, the new tool allows users to create personalised playlists using simple, conversational prompts. Whether you’re in the mood for “feel-good Kenyan hits for a road trip” or “motivational tracks for Monday mornings,” the AI feature curates a selection based on your preferences and past listening habits.
“Playlists are a core part of how our users enjoy music. This new tool adds an extra layer of fun and creativity to that experience,” Spotify noted in a statement.
Users can access the AI Playlist feature by tapping the “+” icon under “Your Library” or by searching for it directly. After entering a prompt, Spotify’s AI taps into your listening history and favourite genres to craft a tailored music mix. You can even fine-tune the playlist by asking for tweaks like “add more mellow songs” or “make it more energetic.”
While straightforward instructions like moods, genres, or specific artists yield great results, Spotify encourages users to get creative. Think “songs that sound like rain,” “music Barbie would dance to,” or even prompts using emojis or fictional characters.
Since its initial test phase, Spotify’s AI Playlist has already helped users around the world create millions of customised playlists. Now, Kenyan listeners can explore a new, interactive way to connect with the music they love.
