Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has witnessed the commencement of works to upgrade the Mwenda Andù–Heni–Karati road in Kinangop Constituency, Nyandarua County, as the government steps up its road construction programme in the region.
Kindiki made the announcement on Monday, October 26, 2026, saying the tarmacking of the Kwa Waichangai–Kinja–Kitiri–Kitogo road was also scheduled to begin during the week.
The Deputy President listed three other roads in Kinangop where tarmacking works are already underway at different stages of completion: Njabini–Sasumua Dam Road, Chobe–Matundura Road and Haraka–Karangatha–Kinamba Road.
The projects form part of the government’s wider plan to improve road infrastructure in Nyandarua County, where it has prioritised the tarmacking of 1,000 kilometres of roads at a cost of Sh46 billion.
According to Kindiki, improved road connectivity is expected to support agricultural production, facilitate trade and strengthen the services sector by easing the movement of people and goods.
The Deputy President also said sustainable funding had been set aside to ensure the road projects are completed on schedule.
The ongoing and planned upgrades are expected to improve access between communities and markets across Nyandarua County, a region where agriculture is a major economic activity. However, the impact of the programme will depend on timely implementation and the completion of the targeted road network.
