Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has reignited tensions with Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja during a recent visit to Marikiti Market.
Gachagua criticized the governor for what he termed “low politics.” .
He emphasized the importance of public participation in decisions affecting the community, specifically referencing plans to relocate the market.

“Huwezi toa watu marikiti kama ngunia,” Gachagua stated, translating to “You cannot treat people like mere sacks.”
He urged Sakaja to engage in meaningful consultation with the public rather than mislead them about the relocation plans.
Gachagua asserted that any proposed changes, such as moving the market to Kangundo Road, should not be made without thorough public involvement.
“The governor should consult widely before making such decisions,” he insisted, highlighting the need for transparency and community input in governance.
