President William Ruto on Friday hosted grassroots political leaders from Samburu County at State House, Nairobi, in a move seen as part of his efforts to consolidate support ahead of next year’s General Election.
The delegation, led by Samburu Governor Lati Lelelit, brought together leaders from different political parties, including the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), Jubilee Party and the Party of National Unity (PNU).
The meeting was attended by serving and former Members of County Assembly (MCAs), Members of Parliament (MPs) and other regional leaders.
According to President Ruto, the leaders resolved to work together as the country prepares for the 2027 polls, signaling a push for political unity in the county.
“They have agreed to work together as the country heads to the General Election next year,” the President said after the meeting.
Among those present were former Samburu Governor Moses Lenolkulal, former Samburu Woman Representative Maison Leshomo and former Samburu East MP Alois Lentoimaga.
Beyond politics, the meeting also focused on development priorities for Samburu County and the country at large. President Ruto said the discussions covered ongoing government interventions aimed at accelerating economic growth and improving infrastructure.
He highlighted the recently established National Infrastructure Fund, saying it would play a key role in financing critical development projects across the country.
According to the Head of State, the fund will support the construction and rehabilitation of roads, expansion of water storage facilities and investment in energy generation projects to spur economic development and improve livelihoods.
