National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has challenged senior government officials from Western Kenya to use their positions to advance President William Ruto’s economic empowerment and development agenda.
Speaking during a meeting with a delegation from Bumula Constituency, Wetang’ula said politicians have continued to shoulder much of the responsibility of championing development in the region despite Western Kenya having a significant number of government officials holding key positions.
Wetang’ula highlighted what he described as President Ruto’s development record, while announcing that KSh7 billion has been included in the national budget for the construction of a dual carriageway linking Malaba to Nakuru.
According to Wetang’ula, the project is expected to ease transportation along the busy route and address persistent congestion caused by the growing number of trucks using the corridor.

The National Assembly Speaker also said the Luhya community is now closer to the Presidency than it has been in previous years, urging the community to position itself strategically ahead of the 2027 General Election.
He called on Western Kenya residents to support President Ruto’s bid for a second term, arguing that the region stands to benefit from maintaining a close working relationship with the national government.
Wetang’ula further expressed support for President Ruto’s Vision 2060 initiative, describing it as an ambitious plan aimed at transforming Kenya’s economy and accelerating national development.
He said a meeting is expected to be held this week with Nyanza Governor Professor Anyang’ Nyong’o, who he identified as the drafter of the vision, to unveil the roadmap for its implementation.
The remarks come as political leaders from different regions intensify mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections, with development projects and regional representation emerging as key issues in the political debate.
