The young Kenyan athletes delivered a medal haul that reaffirmed the country’s global dominance in middle-distance and steeplechase running.
Josephine Sembeyo Mancha etched her name into Kenya’s athletics history by winning gold in the women’s 2500m final, with Caren Chepchirchir winning a bronze medal in the U-20 Championships which conclude on Sunday at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, US.
Mancha said her win is a dedication to her mother, who has been her support and inspiration to her.
“I dedicate the win to my mom, Naomi Mancha; she has been of great support to me and a source of inspiration,” Josephine said.
In the men’s 1500m final, Wilson Chepkwech claimed gold medal, with David Sekento closely securing a silver medal. Their 1-2 finish has shown Kenya’s discipline, where the nation has consistently excelled in athletics.
Emmanuel Someki clinched in the steeplechase, securing a silver medal and Nicholas Losiwareng taking a bronze medal in the men’s 3000m steeplechase final.
Their double podium finish reinforced Kenya’s reputation in the undisputed race. Their success has resonated beyond the track, inspiring young athletes and making the nation of Kenya proud in Oregon, US.
