President William Ruto is set to embark on a three-day tour of the Mt. Kenya region this week, amid escalating political tensions and impeachment claims involving his Deputy, Rigathi Gachagua.
The tour will kick off in Embu on Wednesday, continue to Murang’a on Friday, and conclude in Kirinyaga on Saturday. The timing of this visit is particularly significant, as it comes amidst allegations of a plot to impeach Gachagua.
Political analysts suggest that President Ruto might be using this tour to assess his deputy’s influence and effectiveness in uniting the region.
Albert Kasembeli, a communication expert and political analyst, noted, “The way the president has been behaving around his deputy, their body language suggests they are not in sync. Given that Gachagua has been galvanizing his region, it would interest Ruto to understand the level at which his deputy has united the region.”
In a recent interview on vernacular radio stations, Gachagua accused the Kenya Kwanza administration of targeting him and his community.
He downplayed the impeachment claims, which he attributed to his political adversaries, stating that he was not worried about them.

“If speaking for my people will be the reason for my impeachment, I’m ready to go home. I’m still young,” Gachagua said.
Despite being labeled a tribal bigot, Gachagua maintained that his efforts have always been to advocate for his community’s interests.
He confirmed hearing rumors of his potential impeachment and revealed that 21 Members of Parliament had met at the residence of a Cabinet Secretary from Mt. Kenya.
According to Gachagua, the Minister informed the MPs that the President was displeased with him.
“I hear the Minister disclosed to the MPs what I said during a past Cabinet meeting, which is wrong since members of the Cabinet have taken a vow not to discuss details of Cabinet conversations,” Gachagua stated.
