Suna East MP Junet Mohammed has dismissed claims of divisions within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), insisting that the party remains united, structured, and firmly under the leadership of Oburu Odinga.
In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, Junet said ODM is indivisible and guided by properly constituted and functional party organs.
“There is only one ODM Party, indivisible, and it is led by our Party Leader, Oburu Odinga,” Junet said.
He emphasised that the party encourages robust internal debate, noting that members are free to express divergent views and attempt to persuade one another within the party’s established framework.
“The ODM Party is well structured, with properly functioning organs. We allow robust internal debate on a wide range of issues, and every member is free to hold and air their opinions,” he added.
However, Junet stressed that once party organs reach a decision, unity and discipline are mandatory.
“Once the relevant party organs have settled on a position, our party base expects that we all fall in line. That is what loyalty, fidelity, and faithfulness mean,” he said.
He further dismissed speculation that the party is facing an internal collapse, maintaining that ODM remains stable and focused on its political agenda.
“There is no implosion in ODM, and there will be none,” Junet said, adding that attempts to portray the party as fractured were misguided.
Junet concluded by affirming the party’s readiness for future political engagements, declaring: “Linda Ground. Tuko tayari.”
His remarks come amid renewed debate over ODM’s role in government. On Thursday, ODM Party Leader Oburu Odinga said the party intends to negotiate for a structured power-sharing arrangement in the next government.
Oburu argued that ODM must secure meaningful representation to effectively drive development and influence national priorities, saying the party would no longer accept symbolic inclusion.
“ODM’s current participation in the broad-based government arrangement has provided limited space. We entered the government through the window, but for the upcoming government, we shall enter the government through the door,” Oburu said.
He added that ODM would push for a stronger stake in the next administration to ensure greater development outcomes for its supporters.
