Kenya made a strong showing in Europe over the weekend, sweeping the podium at the Milano Marathon and Vienna City Marathon, with several impressive performances across both events.
At the Milano Marathon on Sunday, Leonard Langat led a clean sweep for Kenya, winning the race in 2:08:38.
He was closely followed by compatriots Isaac Kipkemboi Too, who finished second with a time of 2:08:45, and Timothy Kosgei Kipchumba, who claimed third with 2:09:11.
In the women’s race, Joan Jepkosgei secured second place, clocking 2:25:33, while Ethiopian Shure Demise Ware took the top spot with a winning time of 2:23:32.
Another Ethiopian, Alemtsehay Mekuria, finished third in 2:27:24.
Meanwhile, at the Vienna City Marathon, Betty Chepkemoi also led a Kenyan podium sweep, winning the race in 2:24:14.
She was followed by Rebecca Tanui, who finished second in 2:25:18, and Catherine Cherotich, who took third place with a time of 2:25:45.
In the men’s race, Kenya’s Mica Cheserek placed second with a time of 2:10:23, while Ethiopia’s Haftamu Abadi took the victory in 2:08:28.
Mogos Tuemay, also from Ethiopia, finished third in 2:10:23.
At the Madrid Half Marathon, Levy Kibet dominated the men’s race, crossing the line first in 1:00:45.
Titus Kiprotich, another Kenyan, came in second with 1:00:48, while Tanzanian Daniel Sinda placed third in 1:01:04.
In the women’s race, Kenyan Emmy Jepkemoi emerged victorious with a time of 1:09:09.
Ethiopian Diniya Kedir Abaraya finished second in 1:10:00, and another Kenyan, Nancy Sang, took third in 1:11:11.
