Betty Maina: DP Gachagua Ordered Raid on Kenyatta's farm

Murang’a Women Representative Betty Maina has openly criticized Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s approach to fostering unity in the Mt. Kenya region, accusing him of intimidating local leaders and disrespecting former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

In a post on her social media pages, Maina expressed concern over Gachagua’s tactics, stating, “Gachagua has been intimidating leaders across the region.

There is a need for respect among all leaders.” She called for genuine discussions, urging Gachagua to abandon roadshow meetings and media spectacles in favor of honest and open dialogue.

“Call the leaders to a round table; they will be open, honest, and truthful. You are the one who has been bullying them but now playing victim,” she remarked.

Maina also accused Gachagua of orchestrating the raid on Kenyatta’s farm last year.

“If there is anyone who has disrespected and insulted the former President, it is the current Deputy President. Under his instruction, his farm was raided, and his animals were stolen. During the swearing-in of President H.E. William Ruto, H.E. Uhuru came voluntarily, only to be humiliated with insults and abuses,” Maina stated.

She stressed the importance of focusing on development and addressing the voters’ needs rather than seeking sympathy.

“We now need to walk the talk. We need to stop going to our voters to seek sympathy, yet the same people are expecting development from us. Our voters have their own personal problems and development challenges. Fixing development and the social problems in our areas is urgent,” she added.

Gachagua has recently faced criticism from some Mt. Kenya leaders over his approach to regional unity.

In a recent interview with local radio stations, Gachagua confirmed rumors of his potential impeachment, linking these claims to perceived undermining by President Ruto’s aides.

In a three-hour interview at his official residence, Gachagua revealed that 21 Members of Parliament had met with a Cabinet Secretary from Mt. Kenya, who allegedly disclosed that the President was displeased with him.

“I hear the Minister disclosed to the MPs what I said during a past Cabinet meeting, which is wrong since members of the Cabinet have taken a vow not to discuss details of Cabinet conversations,” he said.

Gachagua mentioned unconfirmed reports suggesting that his critics within the Kenya Kwanza administration wanted him out but lacked the numbers to impeach him.

He also commented on the President’s decision to bring Raila Odinga and his allies into the government.

“The president did not tell me that Raila was coming with his people to government to get rid of me. He said they were coming to help, and I believed him. So I am not taking the impeachment issues seriously,” Gachagua stated.

He warned that if Raila disrupted the government agenda, the Mt. Kenya region would hold the President accountable.

“Should Raila come and bring trouble in the government to an extent the Mt. Kenya region is not happy, we will question the President because he is the one who brought him in,” he said.
