President William Ruto has wrapped up his three-day tour of Kajiado County after commissioning and launching a series of projects targeting roads, housing, water, markets and other public services.
The President spent his final day in Kajiado North on Monday, September 7, inspecting ongoing projects and announcing new investments as he moved through Ngong, Gataka and Ongata Rongai.
One of the major announcements was the planned upgrade of the Karen-Ngong-Kiserian-Ongata Rongai road into a dual carriageway.
Speaking in Rongai, Ruto said the government intends to start work on the road before December 2026, with funding expected to come from the National Infrastructure Fund.
The road is expected to help address the traffic congestion that has become common along the busy corridor.
Ruto also announced plans for a bypass around Ngong to give motorists travelling between Nairobi and Suswa an alternative route without having to pass through the town.
The President’s tour also placed affordable housing at the centre of his development agenda.
In Ngong, he inspected the 1,910-unit Ngong VET Affordable Housing Project, which is expected to be completed in March 2027. More than 1,500 people have so far been employed through the project.
Ruto said the national government is investing KSh20 billion in 10,000 modern housing units across Kajiado County, with the projects expected to create employment for about 5,200 local youth.
He also defended the Affordable Housing Programme against political opposition, saying it had created employment opportunities for young Kenyans.
Road construction featured prominently during the day.
Ruto commissioned the Kahara-Ngong Road and launched construction of the Ngong Stadium Loop Road. He said the government has set aside KSh15 billion for road upgrades across Kajiado County in the current financial year.
At Nakel, he inspected the ongoing upgrade of the Embulbul-Gataka-Ongata Rongai road, which is part of a 65-kilometre road network being improved at a cost of KSh2.5 billion.
Water was another key part of the President’s programme.
At Gataka, Ruto commissioned the Kiserian-Ongata Rongai Water Supply Project, a KSh1.3 billion project funded by the Kenyan government in partnership with the German Development Bank.
The project is expected to supply five million litres of clean water every day to about 180,000 residents.
In Ongata Rongai, the President also moved to boost trading infrastructure.
He laid the foundation stone for a KSh210 million modern market that is expected to provide space for 1,000 traders. He also commissioned another KSh70 million market designed to serve 200 traders.
The government is also putting KSh300 million into the construction of a five-kilometre access road to the Ongata Rongai SGR station.
The road is expected to improve access to the railway station and link it more easily with the surrounding areas.
On healthcare, Ruto said about 740,000 people in Kajiado had registered with the Social Health Authority (SHA).
He added that health facilities in the county had received KSh2.7 billion over the past one-and-a-half years.
The President also announced the construction of 40 additional classrooms at Ongata Rongai Primary School to ease congestion in the school.
Ruto’s three-day tour took him across different parts of Kajiado, where he inspected and launched projects in sectors including roads, irrigation, electricity, housing, markets and public facilities.
He concluded the visit by urging residents to support leaders with clear development plans and rejecting what he described as attempts to divide Kenyans along ethnic lines.
